 The Europe Series paintings are based on a trip to Europe with our granddaughter. The interiors shown were apartments where we stayed, and the girls in the fancy dresses were her friends who joined us for part of the trip.

 Each painting has undertones of a narrative that goes beyond the surface image. With each figure in the paintings I have tried to suggest questions:

-why has this position been chosen

-what is she looking at;

-what is she thinking;

-what is her relationship with the world outside herself?

I have tried to show a sense of apprehension and excitement as she prepares to go out into the world as an adult.
